Frequently Asked Questions

1. What benefits will I get from following the program?

All is good! There is a lot to learn but by the end of the program you will be able to organize well sequenced and balanced Yoga classes! You will know how to put together classes for different levels of students and also be able to name all the Asana (positions of Yoga) in Sanskrit. You will have learned and be able to explain the benefits of specific Yoga Asana - both anatomic & energetic (chakras). You will understand the relationship between who you are today with who you are transforming into as a Yogi. Being a teacher opens a different world because you learn about personality and body shape and the grace and limitations of your students. A yoga teacher is not the same than a fitness instructor - Yoga goes beyond the physical - it is truly interesting, you will learn a great deal about yourself and you will have learned the ability to read the personality and attitude of the student.

2. Can I participate in your program if I am brand new in yoga?

Yes, it would be better if you had some experience in Flow, especially in Vinyasa style, but it is not a requirement. Yoga meets you where you are and from there the experience starts. Yoga is for all of us without exemption. The only requirement that I ask is the desire, and the presence of you! When things are done with the heart they always fall to good results. Be assured, there is always someone that will learn from your knowledge & experience. Yoga is not limited to young people, strong and flexible. In this program you will learn modifications and variations of the Asana, so the effects and the benefits are available for all of those who practice. The Queen of England learned her first Headstand when she turned 80 years old!

Yoga is non-competitive; it is not anybody’s business but your own - your goals. Security and firmness live with you.

3. How about if I start and don’t want to continue?

Well, not a problem, you need only register for one week –end class a time. That will be ok! After you have tried, if you decide my program is not for you, or that your personal schedule will not allow continuation at this time, you won’t lose anything. Simply do not register for more training, but let me tell you, you will love it! This course is a fun and very effective system of learning.

4. What will happen if I start and can’t finish all levels at my particular venue?

Don’t worry; everything will flow to the good - whatever happens! If you can not finish in your starting venue, then you can follow to another location, or wait until I return to your town. I schedule rotations back to participating venues within 4 month periods of the year.

5. Can you explain the Vinyasa style versus other styles of Yoga?

Vinyasa is a specific style that links movement with breath, organizing and manifesting the benefits of that combination in the relation that exists in body, mind, and spirit. In the relationship of inhalation and exhalation there exists a connection and with that we create the flow. In Vinyasa flow from one Asana (Yoga position) to the next, precise alignment and resistance are inspired by other Yoga traditions such as Ashtanga & Iyengar and even Vini Yoga. Vinyasa is open to all levels, recognizing that the real teacher is in within each one of us. The benefits of Vinyasa Yoga are innumerable, promoting life, helping all systems of the body, strengthening bones, clearing the mind and permitting us to discover the inner divine life in each of us. Vinyasa brings liberation and freedom of the spirit. If you apply prayer, goals, desires & intention, a new perspective arrives. You learn how to use the body to offer service and this turns out to be a constant and abundant blessing. There is a very special and bright light that penetrates you in each session, so you can elevate forever the higher state of the consciousness.

6. How do I register? How much does it cost?

Please go to my web site www.Martaberryyoga.com, and find a venue near you. Send your application and sign up for the training you need. The price for the complete certification is $1500.
But for ease of the pockets, I can break the fee down into 6 payments, each week end class is $250. No early birds, discounts, or refunds after the class starts are available. You can pay by internet Paypal through the martaberryyoga.com website or just bring cash or check the same day you start.

7. What I should do after I finish the program and become certified?

When you finish the program I suggest you to enroll with The North America Yoga Alliance and become registered as an International Yoga Instructor. Any studio of yoga in the country or abroad should employee you with this qualification. Registration will give you more confidence and as you teach, the experience will grow in you. The Yoga Alliance supports and helps teachers to grow and develop; you can be part of it. Also you will be on file in your area. This means people interested in learning yoga will call you and you will start having extra work!

Another thing that I suggest you do is to find a job as a yoga instructor right away. We learn that no matter what your activity is, what keeps it up is the practice itself. Being committed to teaching Yoga to others will allow you to prosper and find success – to find who you truly are!

8. I have been teaching yoga in my community for 2 years, can I just enroll in class 4 and get certified?

No, I am sorry but you need to be in the full program in order and receive the full training, this is what 200-Hour Yoga Alliance Teacher Training Certification is all about. The program is progressive; over a weekend there is not much time to review the entire curriculum. That is why we need you to attend during the 6 weekends. We sequence based on my approved Teacher Training Manual. We will learn through power point presentations, taking notes, meditation, classes in philosophy, Energetic Anatomy and develop a clear understanding of the Chakras in relation to the emotions. We will sing mantras, receive an introduction to Hinduism, to Bach Flower Therapy, and we will learn about physical anatomy including the vulnerable joints of the body. On top of this, students will practice teaching! You wouldn’t want to miss any of this!

9. How can I get my 50 practical hours?

The 30 hours of your own practice will show in your collective classes, you just have to fill in the Practical Hour Form we provide you and sign for your own private practice time.

10 hours of community service should be karma yoga (free) and should be signed by the manager of the facility or studio you choose to volunteer at. In case that you want to teach in your home, or give classes to your friends and family, you will be in charge of signing.

The 10 hours of observing and adjusting will be done during class instruction.

10. Do I need to read any books before I start and if so, what are they?

No prior reading is necessary. During the training process you will have lots of information laid out from the Marta Berry Yoga Manual. We will break down posses referencing the LIGHT ON YOGA from BKS Iyengar. You will be writing an Essay on the Bhagavad-Gita. There are also studies in the book of SUTRAS OF PATANJALI. Additionally, there are recommended reference books on Sanskrit, philosophy, and anatomy. It will be up to you to deepen in the studies beyond the course materials.

The certification requires the essay on the Bhagavad-Gita, and exercises in Sanskrit and Chakras, and at the end of the course, a final exam on philosophy, anatomy and methodology as reviewed in class.

The Bhagavad-Gita is given to you (yours to keep as part of course materials) the first day of the training and the essay has to be completed by the entrance of the Level II Intermediate weekend.

The SUTRAS OF PATANJALI and LIGHT ON YOGA can be purchased by the student at anytime in book stores or on the Internet. The Marta Berry Yoga Teacher Training Manual will be given to you, as you progress through every week end class .
