  The Bach Flower Remedies
Dr. Edward Bach (1886-1936)

Dr. Bach was born in Birmingham, England. In his short career he moved from orthodox medicine into developing a natural form of medicine to treat emotional and spiritual health. He completed a work of producing flower essences, each prepared from flowers, wild plants, trees or bushes. The Flower Bach Remedy works by treating the individual, rather that treating the disease or the symptoms.

Dr. Bach’s philosophy is one of simplicity and it was reflected in his way of living and in his completed work - 38 flower essences which gently ease distress and combat ill-health by enabling harmony and peace to flood our lives. Dr Bach enjoyedd the simple pleasures in life and spent the last years of his life at his home in, Mount Vernon, England, where essence producing plants are still being cultivated for use in the production of Bach Flower Remedies.

The purpose of the Essences is to support the patient‘s fight against illness by addressing emotional factors like depression, anxiety, fears, trauma, etc. that exist to impede physical healing. The Essences also can be taken as a preventive at time of anxiety, stress, and particularly for people who often feel tired, overwhelmed or unwell without a specific diagnosis.

How the Essences Work:

The flower essences, like other forms of natural medicine, take effect by treating the individual, not the disease or the symptom of the disease. They work specifically on the emotional condition of the person concerned; individuals with the same physical problem may have to take different essences. For example, one may be resigned to illness while the other may be impatient with it - emotional states that indicate the need for two different essences.

The effect of the Essence is not to suppress negative emotions, but rather to transform them into positives one, stimulating one’s potential for self-healing.
People do not have to be physically ill to benefit from the Essences. Many of us go through times of difficulty, fatigue, fears, depression, anxiety - disturbances when negativity creeps in. This is part of life.

The relationship between stress and the development of biological disease is well documented in studies of conventional medicine. As preventative measures, the Bach Flower Essences are invaluable in restoring and balancing the emotional/psychological state before physical symptoms of the attack of biological disease appear. The Essences have been shown to be effective in tests in plants, animals, and human babies, as well in skeptical adult patients.

Reactions:

Bach Flower Remedies Essences cannot be harmful, and if an inappropriate one is selected, it will simply not have an effect. In short, the essences have no adverse effects. However, like other forms of natural medicine, they may allow suppressed symptoms to surface. These may include rashes while the body has been cleared of toxins, or enhanced awareness of emotions which have been denied expression. These are an important part of the healing process and manifestations are only temporary.

Fluctuating Moods:

For daily ups and downs such as temporarily fatigue or frustration, irritability, etc., a few drops of the appropriate Essence can be taken in a cup of water, fruit juice, tea, or other liquid, and sipped fairly frequently till symptoms fade.

Prescription:

The best way to use and benefit from the Essences is to visit a Bach Flower Therapist and let him or her diagnosis the Essence appropriate at the present moment that is needed. The appropriate Essences prescribed for an individual will change as the individual changes, determined by the dynamics of the indiidual’s developing emotional field.
